The Darkness Turned Stone
The Darkness was an English rock band that achieved brief success with their debut album, “Permission To Land.” The group disbanded in 2006 as a result of lead singer Justin Hawkins leaving to admit himself into a rehabilitation program for alcohol and cocaine problems. He reported after his completion in rehab he would not be returning to the group.
With a new musical direction in mind, the remaining members, Dan Hawkins, Richie Edwards, Ed Graham (all of The Darkness) and newcomer Toby MacFarlaine, joined under the new guise, Stone Gods. In 2008, they released their debut album,” Silver Spoons & Broken Bones.”
The album was well received and the boys set out on their Knight of the Living Dead Tour. At the start of the tour, drummer Ed Graham was diagnosed with the blood disorder, osteonecrosis. Filling in for Graham on the tour was ex-Bush drummer, Robin Goodridge. By the end of the tour, Ed had officially left the band due to his health and was permanently replaced by Robin.
Since 2009, the band has been reported to be working on their sophomore release. In October, Toby MacFarlaine posted in the band’s official forum, “Ok, so you want an exclusive??? To MY ears, this record sounds like a perfect and almost biblical mixture of Megadeth, Alice In Chains and The Beatles…Oooohhhh my gutniss, are you kids in for a f*cken treat! xx”
